chronological order
putting events in order of when things happened.
primary source
information that was created at the same time as an event or by a person directly involved in the event
secondary source
gets its information from somewhere else or by a person not directly involved in the event
Continent
a large, continuous mass of land. Our earth has seven continents.
Ocean
the vast body of salt water that covers almost three fourths of the earth’s surface.
Latitude
the distance measured by degrees or time north or south of the equator
Longitude
the distance measured by degrees or time east or west from the prime meridian
Prime Meridian
it is the meridian of 0° longitude from which all other longitudes are calculated.
Equator
an imaginary circle or line around the earth, everywhere equally distant from the North and South Poles.
Hemisphere
one of the halves of the earth as divided by the equator or by a meridian
Compass Rose
the symbol that shows direction on a map. It can show both cardinal (N, S, E, W) and intermediate (NE, SE, SW, NW) directions
Scale
a map tool that shows the relationship or ratio between the distance on the ground and the corresponding distance on a map
geography
the scientific study of the Earth’s surface
weather
the condition of the outside air or atmosphere at a particular time and place
climate
the weather patterns of a region over a long period of time.
