Listing of the pages containing the sections, opening, closing and index. Usually printed in the front end sheet or the opening but not the title page.
Contents
Final pages of the book where the theme is concluded.
Closing
The story; includes three quotes and is centered around the students.
Copy
Outside of the yearbook; protects the contents.
Cover
Refers to both the topics featured on individual spreads and how the topics are highlighted. Includes photos, copy, and caption.
Coverage
Spread used to separate each section of the yearbook; must be theme related.
Divider
Heavier sheets of paper that hold the pages to the cover. In the front they show a table of contents.
Endsheets
Eight pages on one side of a signature.
Flat
Printing in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black.) Colors combine to create full-color pictures.
Four Color
Elements such as rule lines, gray screens, large initial letters, and special type treatment that enhance the book’s design.
Graphics
A complete alphabetical listing of all the people covered in the book.
Index
Page-by-Page listing of the yearbook’s contents. Staff use it to stay organized and plan for deadlines.
Ladder
First two to four pages that introduce the theme.
Opening
Yearbook is typically broken up into six of these, beneficial to reader as well as staff. Maximizes coverage.
Section
16 page grouping made up of two flats.
Signature
Area connecting the front and back covers, school and publication name should be there.
Spine
Mini theme used as a section title will help carry the theme throughout the book.
Spin-Off
Printing at least one color except black nice way to add to a B&W page.
Spot Color
Two pages facing or side-by-side such as 2 & 3.
Spread
Verbal statement and visual looks that puts the yearbook together. Should fit your school and year.
Theme
Page one of the book should include school information.
