Concepts Flashcards
1
Q
Does hypercarbia cause hyper or hypokalemia?
A
Causes Hyperkalemia
K is released as a buffer for the acid
2
Q
How does parathyroid affect calcium levels?
A
Directly proportional
Hyperparathyroidism - high calcium
Hypoparathyroidism - low calcium
3
Q
How does hypocalcemia affect the TP?
A
Causes a decrease in TP
Hypercalcemia causes an increase in TP
4
Q
How does hypokalemia affect the RMP?
A
Hypokalemia decreases RMP and hyper causes the RMP to increase
Decreased potassium is harder for the cell to depolarize
(Hyperkalemia causes lethal cardiac rhythms)
