Conductors and Insulators Flashcards
(18 cards)
Conductor
Materials that allow electrons to move through them easily; most metals are conductors.
Insulator
Materials that inhibit the flow of electrons; something that is not metallic can be a decent insulator.
Vinegar, Citrus, and Salt water
Good conductors that are acidic and/or ionic.
Multimeter
A device that can determine whether a material conducts electricity.
Silver
Most conductors are metal, and this is just an example of a metal that is a good conductor.
Rubber
Some examples of good electrical insulators.
Gold
A conductor.
Iron
A conductor.
Platinum
A conductor.
Steel
A conductor.
Nickel
A conductor.
Copper
A conductor.
Aluminum
A conductor.
Glass
An insulator.
Oil
An insulator.
Diamond
An insulator.
Dry Wood
An insulator.
Semiconductor
They are crucial to the creation of electronics and circuit boards; they are made from silicon or germanium. Small impurities are added which changes their conductivity.
