Conformational Dynamics Flashcards
(7 cards)
what is mass spectrometry
It is a process that weights molecules in space. A magnet will deviate moving electron beams from a sample from a path they are on and the degree that it deviates from the path will give an idea about the mass of the molecule.
What is deuterium
a hydrogen isotope
What is the hydrogen-deuterium exchange
Deuterium will exchange with hydrogen in water.
True or False. Hydrogens in bonds will exchange quickly
False. They will either not exchange or do so very slowly
True or False. Hydrogens outside of bond will exchange quickly
true
What does it say about a protein if D is not incorporated quickly
The protein is less dynamic or highly involved in hydrogen binding
What can the use of hydrogen-deuterium tell you about a protein
it tells you about the conformational flexibility. it can tell you about protected/conserved or highly interacting sites because exchange will not occur in these areas.
