Connective tissue Flashcards
what sort of cells are these and how do you know
fibroblasts, spindle shaped nucleus
what do fibroblasts do?
secrete collagen into the ECM, most common cells in connective tissue
what sort of cell is this. Why? What does it do? WHen is it viible
macrophage. kidney shaped nucleus, phagocytoses dead cells, pathogens etc, only visible when doing phaogocytic activity
describe mast cells
large cells with spherical nucleus. Loads of granules of histamine and heparin (basophilic granules)
where would you not find mast cells
spinal cord and brain
what are these cells?
mast cells
what are the 3 types of fibres in connective tissue
collagenous, reticular, elastic
describe collagen/reticular/elastic fibres
C: thick, high tensile strength, most abundant
R: very thin collagenous fibres, network/meshlike, highly branched
E: Bundles of microfibrils embedded in elastin.
what is granulation tissue
new connective tissue and microscopic blood vessels that form on the surfaces of a wound during the healing proces
type 3 collagen
where do you find type 4 collagen
only in basement membrane
where do you find type 1 collagen
bones, skin, tendons, mature scars, cornea teeth
where do you find type 2 collagen
cartilage, nucleus pulposus, vitreous humour (eye gel)
where do you find type 3 collagen
granulation tissue, uterus, blood vessels
what is Haematopoiesis
formation of blood cells
what type of collagen is in reticular fibres
type 3
