Where society is relatively harmonious and social order is maintained through value consensus or a widespread agreement between people of the norms and values.

They see society as a conflict stricken and unstable and emphasise social differences and conflicts between groups. It focuses on the power and control of dominant groups and class and the roles of systems such as education in producing and legitimising inequality.
