What comes under “sufficient information” told to patients before having a treatment?
Telling the pt’s what they want/need.
You must tell them of:
> Any risks with a likelihood of >1% occurrence
> Any risks below
What is delegated consent?
Consent for a patient given to someone not competent to carry out the procedure.
The Mental capacity act gives advanced legal refusal of treatment. Yes or no?

1) Presumption of capacity
2) Supported participation in decision making
3) A right to make eccentric decisions

What are the four domains of lacking capacity?
1) Unable to weigh up info
2) Unable to retain

4) Unable to communicate their decision
What is the criteria for a patient having an IMCA?
No capacity, no close family/friends, no lasting power of attorney, no court deputy and needs to make decision about serious medical treatment.
What defines long term place of care?
Hospital stay >28 days
Care home stay > 8 wks
What is an advanced directive?
It is an ORAL or written living will, for when a capacitous person loses capacity. It can refuse a life saving treatment, but not request treatment or basic life care treatment.
