Conserved Sequence Flashcards

Q

What is a conserved sequence?

A

A sequence of DNA or RNA that shows very few to no mutations over time , therefore the DNA is identical across the species.

Examples (hypothesis): natural selection prevents transmission of harmful mutations and active DNA repair and proofreading mechanisms lower mutation rates
