A

Have more than one place of articulation
Not in the main IPA chart of consonants
Such as /w/

What are the 2 types of simultaneous complex articulation?

A

Double articulations: both constrictions with same degree of stricture e.g. /W/ and /H/
Secondary articulations: the two constrictions have different widths (the wider constrictions is referred to as the secondary artiulation, and the narrower the primary)

what are transitional/ sequential articulations?

A

seperate successive articulations producing one sound e.g. dg in ridge (affricates)
the tiebar represents a single unit

what are the 3 different variations of stops?

A

variations in the closure phase: complete closure may not be attained (fricative)
variations in the hold phase: consonants can be produced for a longer or shorter period of time (geminates)
variations in the release phase: the release can be made slower (affricated stop)
