Enumerated Powers
specific powers granted to congress in the constitution
Implied Powers
powers not specifically stated but considered reasonable under the elastic clause
Inherent Powers
powers of the president
Reserved Powers
powers reserved for the states
Commerce Clause
congress has the power to regulate interstate and foreign commerce/trade
Elastic Clause
”Necessary and Proper” Clause, congress has the power to make all laws that are deemed as such
Equal Protection Clause (14th Amendment)
no state can deny any person equal protection of the laws
Establishment Clause (1st Amendment)
congress can’t make any laws that respect an establishment of a religion
Free Exercise Clause (1st Amendment)
congress also can’t make laws that prohibit someone from exercising their religion
Full Faith and Credit Clause
states have to respect the rules of other states
Privileges and Immunities
the citizens of each state are entitled to the privileges and immunities of the other states (when in that state ofc)
Supremacy Clause
the US Constitution and laws are supreme over the states
