Contracts Of Employment Flashcards
What is a contract of employment? Give five things it should include.
Job title
Starting date of the employment
The hours of work
The regular date of payment
Where the employee will be working
What does it mean if a staff member is ‘full time’?
When a person works 35-40 hours a week.
Give one advantage to an employer of having part-time stuff
They can fill in when other staff members are absent.
What is job sharing?
When two people share the work and pay of one full-time job.
Give one benefit of zero hour contracts to: a) employers b) employees
Employers-They are a cheap form of labour-they don’t waste money paying staff when they’re not really needed
Employees-Employees especially students can earn some extra cash but want to be able to turn work down if they’re busy doing other things.
What is a job description?
This includes the formal title of the job, the main purpose of the job, the main duties plus any occasional duities. It will also state who the job holder will report to, and whether they will be responsible for any other staff.
Give two disadvantages to a firm of filling a vacant position internally rather than externally.
The new employee will not give any new ideas and the employee’s move will leave a vacancy to fill.
Explain why the recruitment and selection process is important for customer service.
It’s important because people well-suited to their role and who enjoy their job will provide better customer service.
Why might a firm prefer candidates to fill an application form rather than just send in their CV?
They might prefer them to fill an application form because these forms give the firm the information it wants. This means they’re much quicker to process and more relevant to the job.
