Coordination And Response Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is stimulus and response, and what are their relation?
Stimulus is change of conditions, environment, and things that our receptors detect, while response is our action to adapt or keep ourselves safe. Their relation is response is a result of a stimulus
Explain the nervous system (what are they and how they work)
Central Nervous System includes the brain and spinal cord. Both works as the main “commander” who receives signals and decides what to do
Peripheral nervous system includes the cranial nerves and spinal nerves. Their only difference is their main destination (cranial goes to the brain while spinal goes to the spinal cord) while their functions is relatively the same, sending impulses
Explain nerve impulses
Nerve impulses are electrical signals sent from the receptors passing through the neurons like electrical charges pass along a wire
What is motor neuron
Motor neuron is neurons who sent impulses to the effectors from the CNS
What is sensory neurons?
Sensory neurons is neurons who sent impulses to the CNS from the receptors
What is effectors and what are they?
Effectors is part of body who will give or do the reaction for a certain stimulus. It consists of muscles and glands
What is receptors and what are they?
Receptors are sensors who is responsible for detecting stimuluses around us. It consists of eyes, nose, skin, tongue, and ears.
What are types or responses? Explain them (and give examples)
It consists or two types, which is
Voluntary, which is the actions we do consciously. Like running, eating , jumping.
Involuntary which is the actions we do unconsciously. Its divided into two groups. First, reflexes, which is actions we do quickly to safe ourselves from danger, and second, our body functions like, heart beating, digesting food, breathing, blinking.
Mention the reflex chain.
Stimulus, receptor, sensory neurons, relay neurons, motor neuron, effectors , response.
What is relay neurons?
Relay neurons is neurons responsible for connecting sensory neurons and motor neurons so they can ‘communicate’. It is placed in the CNS
What is synapse
A point where two neurons are connected
Explain how neurons sends signals to each other.
The electrical impulse from the axon is turned into chemical massages by the vesicles, then those neurotransmitters were sent to the synapse cleft and sensed by the protein receptors on the next neuron.
