MEMORY ITEMS - EMERGENCY DESCENT

  1. PF: Advise the cabin crew, on the PA system.
  2. PM: Advise ATC and obtain the area QNH.
    Passenger signs …. ON
  3. Without delay, descend to 10,000 ft or MSA if higher.
  4. ENGINE START switches ….. CONT
  5. Thrust levers (both) ….. Reduce thrust to minimum or as needed for anti-ice
  6. Speedbrake ….. FLIGHT DETENT
  7. Set target speed to Mmo/Vmo.
  8. If structural integrity in doubt, limit speed and avoid high maneuvering loads.

WINDSHEAR ESCAPE MANOUEVRE

A

MANUAL FLIGHT:

Disengage the A/P
Push TO/GA switch
Aggressively apply maximum thrust
Disengage the autothrottle
Wings level and pitch up for 15° simultaneously
Retract speedbrakes
Follow flight director TO/GA guidance

AUTOMATIC FLIGHT:
Push TO/GA switch
Verify TO/GA FMA
Verify GA thrust
Retract speedbrakes

• Do not change flap or gear configuration until clear.
• Monitor vertical speed and altitude.
• Do not attempt to regain lost airspeed until until clear.

GPWS RESPONSE

A

• Disengage the A/P and A/T.

• Aggressively apply maximum thrust.
• Simultaneously roll wings level and rotate to an initial pitch of 20°.

• Retract speedbrakes.

• If terrain remains a threat, continue up to PLI / SS / initial buffet.

• Do not change gear or flap config until terrain separation assured.

• Monitor RA for sustained or increasing terrain separation.

• When clear of terrain, slowly decrease pitch and accelerate.

STALL RECOVERY

A

Initiate the recovery:
• Hold the control column firmly.
• Disengage the A/P and A/T.
• Smoothly apply nose down elevator until buffet or SS stops.
• Nose down stabilizer trim may be needed.
Continue:
• Roll in the shortest direction to wings level if needed.
• Advance thrust levers as needed.
• Retract the speedbrakes.
• Do not change gear or flap configuration, except
• During liftoff, if flaps are up, call for F1.
Complete:
• Check airspeed and adjust thrust as needed.
• Establish pitch attitude.
• Return to the desired flight path.
• Re-engage the A/P and A/T if desired.
