A

In a separate test tube prepare fresh Tollens’s reagent - reagent must be freshly prepared as it decomposes quickly can form explosive silver compounds

Add Tollens’ reagent to test tube with unknown and warm gently in hot bath - provides energy for redox a silver mirror forms if an aldehyde is present reduces to silver ion ketones give no reaction
