Q

What safety precautions should be adhered to when working with counterweight systems?

A

Keep feet clear of counterweight block (always wear steel toe capped boots)

Ensure the halyard has tension placed on it from a lowering device, before detaching the block

When disconnecting the block, ensure it is secure or hold it securely to prevent the block from swinging and falling.

Keep hands and fingers away from ropes under strain.

When securing pickets into the ground, shards of metal may be removed from the picket when struck with a sledgehammer, therefore it is essential that eye protection is worn by all personnel involved in the installation of pickets.
