1

THE ATRIA ARE ________ CHAMBERS

FILLING

2

THE VENTRICLES ARE ________ CHAMBERS

PUMPING

3

THE _______ ATRIUM AND VENTRICLE ARE LOCATED MORE ANTERIOR

RIGHT

4

THE _____ ATRIUM AND VENTRICLE ARE LOCATED MORE POSTERIOR

LEFT

5

THE RIGHT VENTRICLE PUMPS BLOOD TO THE _________ CIRCULATION

PULMONARY

6

THE LEFT VENTRICLE PUMPS BLOOD TO THE _________ CIRCULATION

SYSTEMIC

7

CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM

-HEART AND BLOOD VESSELS
- CARRIES OXYGEN, GASES, NUTRIENTS, & OTHER SUBSTANCES THROUGHOUT THE BODY

8

CONTRACTION

SYSTOLE

9

RELAXATION

DIASTOLE

10

2 DIFFERENT TYPES OF VALVES

-ATRIOVENTRICULAR VALVES
- SEMILUNAR VALVES

11

ATRIOVENTRICULAR VALVES

-TRICUSPID VALVE
-MITRAL VALVE

12

SEMILUNAR VALVES

-PULMONIC VALVE
-AORTIC VALVE

13

Circulatory system is a __________ circuit. An obstruction of flow at any point will cause blood to back up behind it.

continuous

14

Pulmonary circulation is composed of:

-A PUMP (RT VENTRICLE)
-PULMONARY ARTERY
-PULMONARY CAPILLARIES
-PULONARY VEINS

15

PULMONARY CIRCULATION (ORDER)

- Right heart receives DEOXYGENATED blood from systemic circulation,
-Passes through right atrium, through TV into RV, through pulmonic valve into pulmonary artery.
-Travels through lungs - becomes OXYGENATED
-Returns to left heart through FOUR pulmonic veins

16

PULMONARY CAPILLARIES

-Deoxygenated blood pumped to capillaries in lungs
-Carbon dioxide is removed from blood

17

Exhaled with breathing

carbon dioxide

18

Inhaled with breathing

oxygen - to be transported by blood throughout the body

19

Systemic circulation is composed of:

-A PUMP (LT VENTRICLE)
-AORTA AND ARTERIAL BRANCHES
-SYSTEMIC CAPILLARY NETWORK
-CEREBRAL, PERIPHERAL & ABDOMINAL VEINS
-SUPERIOR AND INFERIOR VENA CAVA

20

SYSTEMIC CIRCULATION (ORDER)

-Left heart receives OXYGENATED blood from pulmonary circulation
-Blood enters Lt atrium through FOUR pulmonary veins
-Through MV into LV
-Contraction of LV through AoV into Aorta - travels to body's organs and systems
-Capillary networks in tissues and organs - exchange of gases and nutrients - oxygen used by body
-Deoxygenated blood returned to Rt Atrium via SVC & IVC
