Why is Alex in court?
His dad was physically abused by his father. He went to court and was staying with his nan for a few weeks.
What does the DHS recommend for Alex?
- Accept visits

- Dad must not use physical punishment
What is a pre hearing conference and who is involved?
A meeting were child, parent, social workers and legal workers get together to discuss possible outcomes
What is Alex’s lawyer concerned about and what is the concern for the DHS?
- the lawyer is concerned with the last condition, that his father must not use physical punishment
- DHS is concerned that Alex won’t be safe without this condition
What is Jaqui charged with and what number appearance is it for her?
- She was charged with stealing/theft
- This is her first appearance in court
What does Jaqui’s lawyer argue in her defence?
That it was the night of Jaqui’s deb and her family did not own a camera
What sanction does the magistrate impose and what are the conditions?
- She must make a promise to the court that she will not commit a criminal offence in 6 months.
- If she does commit a crime she must then return to court
What did Scott’s lawyer arrange with the police?
To withdraw the charges of theft, robbery and assault.
What did the police prosecuted give to the magistrate?
Youth service report
What does Scott’s lawyer suggest for sentencing? What are the conditions of this order?
- Scott’s lawyer suggested that the court should be adjourned.
- He must get a clinical report to determine why he committed all of these crimes
- He also needs to get s youth service report
- He will be held in custody until his next court date
