How did COVID-19 occur at the beginning?

- First in wuhan in December of 2019
- Zoonotic infection (bat to human)
- Initially considered viral pneumonia
- British gover nment critisesed for lateness of lockdown + disorganisation and efficiency
- Department of health and social care (along with public health England) raised risk of virus form very low to low
- Presented symptoms (dry cough, long cough repetitive)

How did COVID enter the UK
A
- 13 march, WHO declared Europe as an active centre of pandemic
- Lockdown in Italy and spread
Progression in the UK: - March- acute viral transmission , policy u turns , public lockdown
- Level 4 incident: NHS England taking full control of NHS resources
- Preexisting medical conditions= avoiding travel
- Government scientific advisor said that herd immunity was w c hat we needed to do
- Matt hancock said that this isn’t the case
- 16th march= Johnson said to avoid all non essential travel, public gatherings, pubs, clubs, theatres
- Pregnant women= complications of covid
- 17th march: NHS England announced that all non-urgent operations would be postponed from 15th April (30 000 hospital beds released)
- Furlough scheme-> provide governmental grants to employers. This means they would pay staff 80% of monthly wage
