covid tracing Flashcards
covid tracing (39 cards)
Contact tracing for COVID- preventing.
Learning objective: Describe what contact tracing is and how it stops transmission of SARS-CoV2.
Define a case of covid-19 and a contact.
Explain the meaning and purpose of isolation and quarantine.
Describe the connection between the infectious period and isolation and quarantine
Identify High-Risk settings for transmission that requires extra action,
A case of covid-19 requires action.
Diagnosing a case of covid-19 is important because we have to act.
Support the person who is infected.
Ensure they have access to medical care social services (offer treatment)
Limit their contact with other people.
Identifty people who may have been infected.
Notify them about their exposure and offer social services (offer treatment)
Limit their contact with other people.
Public health prevention for covid-19
Idea: If we can limit contact between people who are infected and others, we can limit the opportunies for the virus to be transmitted.
Isolation and quarantine can have a big impact on reducing transmission
Stopping one transmission chain can prevent many future cases.
Defining case
Someone who has covid-19.
Usually has a positive laboratory test.
Suspect or probable case
Someone exposed to a case (covid-19) who develops symptoms, even if they have not had a test yet.
Contact
Someone who had contact with a case while they were infectious.
During their illness.
2 days before their illness began,
Three types of contact.
Next card.
Physical contact
Shaking hands, hugging, any close direct contact.
Close contact
Within 6 ft for 15+ minutes .
Proximate contact
More than 6 ft but in the same room for an extended period.
Cohorting
Is when a group of students are kept together with the same peers and staff throughout the school day to reduce the risk for spread throughout the school.
The physical distancing guidance varies depending on age group:
In elementary schools where all students are wearing masks, a student is considered a contact if they have been within 3 feet of a case for 15 minutes or more.
Middle school/High schools.
In middle and high schools, a student is a contact if they have been within 3 feet of a case for 15 minutes or more if all students are using masks and the school is using “cohorting
Dynamics
COVID-19 transmission dynamics are different in older students – they are more likely to be exposed to SARS-CoV-2 and spread it than younger children.
Problems with not using cohorting.
In middle and high schools that are not using cohorting, a student is considered a contact if they are within 6 feet of a case for a total of 15 minutes or more within a 24 hour time period.
What if students are unmasked, like during lunch and recess.
However, when students are unmasked, such as at lunch, they must maintain a distance of 6 feet. Other situations that require 6 feet of physical distancing include:
1
Between adults in the school building and between adults and students.
2
In common areas, such as school lobbies and auditoriums.
3
When masks can’t be worn, such as when eating.
5
During activities when heavier breathing occurs. Examples of this include singing, shouting, band practice, sports, or exercise.
6
In community settings outside of the classroom
What happens when a student or adult has been within 6ft of a case for 15 minutes or more?
If a student or adult has been within 6 feet of a case for 15 minutes or more in any of the above-described scenarios, they are considered a contact.
Isolation vs Quaratine.
