COW Flashcards
(21 cards)
What is the difference between an aneurysm and a dissection?
aneurysm is the ballooning of a vessel while a dissection is when the vessels of the wall of the artery separate (i.e. the blood makes its way between the layers of the artery, typically in the thoracic aorta)
WHere do dissections typically occur?
thoracic aorta
Where do aneurysms typically happen?
abdominal aorta
What crosses the aorta? Therfore what should you do when you have an aortic aneurysm?
duodenum
reflect duodenum
When you are looking at a CT scan and you see an anuerysm what color will it be?
it will be gray filled with thrombi
When you think your friend is hally berry then you are in (blank)
hypovolemic shock :)))))
Abdominal aneurysms typically occur (Blank) the renal arteries
below
What are the three veins (collateral flow) attached to the left renal vein?
gonadel, adrenal, ascending lumbar
If you have an aortic aneurysm what should you tie off?
the IMA
How does an aortic graft work?
you put it in with a needle stick and it balloons out in the aneurysm which seals the walls so blood can no longer enter
What is this:
the sudden interruption of blood flow into the intestine
(minimally developed collaterals, abdominal catastrophe, usually embolic)
acute mesenteric ischemia
collateral flow takes (blank) to develop
time
What is this:
extensive collaterals, intestinal angina (involvement of at least 2 vessels)
Chronic mesenteric ischemia
If a clot doesnt migrate then it is (blank)
thrombotic
If you have a clot and it moves then it is (blank)
embolotic
If you have a blockage of the SMA will the SMA be out of commission?
no, if enough time has passed the pancreaticduodenal can help it out and make it work
Where does the superior rectal artery start?
after the sigmoid arteries
If you have a occlusion in your left colic artery what happens? (IMA messed up)
your SMA will help it out
If you have dead intestine what will you pH be like?
you will have metabolic acidosis!!!! AHHHHHHHH
Severe abdominal pain and acidosis indicates that your patient has an (BlanK)
occlusion and dead intestine
How do you expose the SMA?
reflect the transverse colon
