What is the Definition of Policing?
“Policing is the maintenance of law and order by a police officer”

Focuses policing efforts on one or more of the crime triangle components -methods inc: Education Strat, Media Campaigns etc
What is DISRUPTION?
Criminal behaviour is occurring / employ a strategy to disrupt criminal behaviour of offender.
What is RESPONSE?
Crime is going to occur and you will need to respond and investigate those crimes

Main source of law in Australia and is Law that comes from Legislation
What is Case Law?
Made by judges through their decisions in court cases

What is FUNCTION of Law?
Forms social control, the law gives power to the police to do their job and use force when necessary. It protects lives, liberties, rights and property of citizens

What is the Rule of Law?
No one is above the law - the law is applied equally and fairly - Fair Trials - Presumption of innocence
What is DUE PROCESS?
Natural Justice or Procedural Fairness

Once point of law is decided upon by a court then the same law must be applied / promote consistency in decision making by judges

Means 2 parties in a case (both prosecution and defence)
