CPR steps: 7
A
- Check the scene for safety. Form an initial impression and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Check for responsiveness, breathing, bleeding, or other life threatening conditions.
- If the person does not respond call for help and all 9-11
- Kneel beside the person to check pulse and place the person on their back on firm flat surfaces
- Position two hands on center of chest. Shoulder directly over hands. Elbows locked. Give 30 compression at a time at a rate of 100-120 per minute. Compression depth should be 2-2.5 inches and allow chest to recoil between each compression
- Give 20 breaths in between each set of 30 chest compression. Use the head-tilt/chin left technique. Pinch nose shut, take a normal breath and make a seal over mouth. Ensure each breath lasts about 1 second and makes the chest rise; allow air to exit before giving the next breath. IF chest does not rise reposition head and seal before second breath
- Continue giving sets of 30 and 2 until helps arrives and an AED is set up. Minimize interruptions to chest compression to less than 10 seconds
