Southern Colonies

A

There were distinct from the New England and Middle Colonies in several key ways. Primarily, they were defined by their agrarian economy, reliance on slave labor for plantation agriculture, and a social structure heavily influenced by this economic system. The Southern Colonies included Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

They had long, hot summers and short cool winters which made the Southern states great to produce cash crops.
