what is social division/ lack of trust ?
distrust and fear one another. arguments, tension. afraid to leave their homes.
what is an example of social division in the community?
fear of crime- effects 75+ most. more than 50% of age group aggressor to leave their home.
how is an economic impact a consequence for society ?
they may have to pay to repair damage. police work costs community money. higher taxes and higher insurance costs.
what is an example of economic impact ?
costs of keeping someone in jail/ £40000 a year. when lots of people go to prison the tax increases.
how does the cycle of crime being a consequence for the community?
crime keeps increasing and getting worse. crime pushes people into poverty which makes them commit crime to survive. could be taking revenge, gangs.
what is an example of the cycle of crime effecting the community?
gang violence- london. 26 teens murdered last year.
how does the police protect the public?
keep people safe during big events, like football matches. police will place officers in large events to protect the public.
what is an example of the police protecting the public ?
policing football matches. rival fans are kept separate, break up violence, move people along.
how does the police prevent / reduce crime ?
stop crime from happening in the first place. making people aware of how to keep themselves safe. talk to schools.

how do police investigate crime ?
try to find out who committed a crime, build a case against them. collect evidence.
what is an example of the police investigating crime ?
the investigation into match fixing. bribing referees. dan tan made millions. betting. officers looked into bank accounts, interviewed witnesses, made arrests singapore.
what are local divisions?
they do everyday work of the police. answer emergency calls , patrol areas, and investigate in their local areas.
what is an example of local divisions ?
edinburgh division- edinburgh festival. give demonstrations deal with drunk peeps and help with directions.
what is a specialist crime division?
provide expert support in serious or unusual crimes that local divisions can’t handle. intelligence or counter-terrorism.
what is the operational support unit ?
gives specialist support through the use of animals or technology. helicopters. local units rarely need this.
what is an example of specialist crime division?
counter- terrorism unit. train with guns to take down armed terrorists.
what is an example of the operational support unit ?
police scotland dog unit. the dogs are trained to sniff out drugs and explosives. they can also catch criminals.
what is a stop and search ?
they can stop any member of the public under reasonable grounds to search them. it can’t be because other their ethnic minority or age, there should be a good reason.
what is an example of a stop and search ?
the reasonable grounds to be stopped are if they are running away from a crime, they’ve been tipped off that a person is carrying drugs or a weapon.
how do police execute search warrants ?
they can forcibly enter someone’s home to search for something if they have a warrant. it’s illegal to get in the way of a search under these conditions.
what is an example of a search warrant ?
if they suspected a drug dealer was operating out of a house they would have the grounds to search a house.
what is arresting and detaining people ?
custody. up to 12 hours without charging them, or 24 is a senior officer authorises it. after then they must be released
what is an example or arresting and detaining ?
you must be able to read your rights, and a lawyer must be informed. you have the right to se them at any time. you only have to tell the police your name address date and place of birth.
