A

She came from a a very wealthy family and established himself as a London merchant. Despite lacking legal training but developed a thriving legal practice. He had learned enough about law in Europe to gain a business and reputation. He was transformed from a ‘ruffian’ to a cultured man.

How did Cromwell’s service to Wolsey help him rise to power?

A

Working for the Alter Rex brought with it a lot of respect and further opportunities. By 1519, he was a member of Wolsey’s Council. By 1529, he was his most trusted advisor. Took on increasingly high profile legal cases, frequently delivered news to the King and by 1523 he became an MP.

A

He was prepared to make difficult decisions, even sending people to death. He was also warm and charming and people found him witty. Eustace Chapuys, the Spanish ambassador Charles V, said that Thomas used his personality to win people over and would tell him far more than they intended.
