What is Croup?
A
Bacterial or viral infection - causes inflammation or narrowing of the airways
it is self-limiting

What is it treated with?
A
a single dose of a corticosteriod (dexamethasone 150micogram/kg and adrenaline can help too)

Whats the tx for severe croup?
A
hospital admission - dexamethasone PO or injection OR budesonide (nebulisation) - should reduce symptoms - dose may be repeated after 12 hours if necessary
- severe croup - not effectively controlled with corticosteriod tx, nebulised adrenaline/epinephrine
