Why was Cuba switched off?
A
Declared communist state so received subsidies from USSR, which supported it’s economy
Began to rely more on tourism when USSR collapsed

How is Cuba becoming more switched on?
A
Less strict communist rules with new gov
US embassy reopened in Havana
People able to have private businesses etc
However, state owned farmland sold off + people not guaranteed state employment, unemployment has risen

Increasing inequality
A
Many people can afford private restaurants etc…
But many Cubans relying off of subsidised rationed food from the state
Private taxi drivers made more than state doctors
