Q

What are two PECs of cultural variations?

A
  • P: Strength = indigenous researchers
  • E: Van IJ. and K study: researchers worked within their own cultures, avoids translation barriers
  • C: However, this is not true of all cross cultural research; Tronick et al (1992) study of Efe tribe
  • S: So data from some studies may invalid due to bias or issues with cross cultural communication
  • P: Strength = meta analysis - large sample size
  • E: Almost 2000 PPs in van IJ and K study so likely to have population validity (representative)
  • C: However, limited number of studies from some cultures; only one in UK, China and Israel
  • S: So findings may not generalise to ssaid cultures; not representative, particularly given 150% variation within cultures
