Q

Explain the Italian study of cultural variations?

A

Simionelli conducted the same study to see attachment types. he assessed 76 babies aged 12 months using strange situation. They found 50% with secure with 36% insecure – avoidant. This is a lower rate of secure attachment and higher rates of insecure, this may be because of the increasing number of mothers work long hours and use professional childcare.

Q

Evaluate one strength of variations in attachment cultural?

A

They were conducted by ingenuous psychologist meaning they were from the same cultural background as the participants. This means many of the potential problems can be avoided such as researchers misunderstanding the language used by participants or having difficulty communicating instructions to them, difficulties can also include bias because of one nation stereotypes of another. This means the participants were communicated successfully enhancing the validity of data collected.

Q

evaluate one limitation of cross cultural research?

A

One is a meta analysis studies conducted in different countries do not use the same method when conducting their experiment. sample characteristics such as poverty and social class can confound results and the age of participants. environmental variables might also differ between studies for example the size of the room and the availability of interesting toys there. babies might explore more in studies in small rooms with attractive toys compared to large bear rooms.
