What is culture?
The Knowledge, language, values, customs, and material objects that are passed from person to person and from one generation to the next in a human group or society
What is Beliefs
The mental acceptance or conviction that certain things are true or real.
What is a Symbol?
Anything that meaningfully represents something else
What is language?
A set of symbols that are expressed ideas and enables people to think and communicate with one another.
What is values?
Collective ideas about what is right or wrong, good or bad, and desirable or undesirable in particular culture.

Established rules of behavior or standards of conduct
What is mores?
Strongly held norms or everyday customs that may be violated without serious consequences within a particular culture.
What is Taboos?
More so Strong that their violation is considered to be extremely offensive and even unmentionable
What are laws?
Formal, standardized norms that have been enacted by legislature and are enforced by formal sanctions
What is Subculture
A group of people who share a distinctive set of cultural beliefs and behaviors that differs in some significant of the larger society.
What is Counterculture?
A group that strongly rejects dominant societal values and norms and seeks alternative lifestyles.
What is Ethnocentrism?
The practice of judging all other cultures by one’s own culture
What is Socialization?
The lifelong practice of social interaction through which individuals acquire a self-identity and the physical, mental, and social skills needed for survival in society.

The totality of our beliefs and feelings about ourselves.
What is Agent of socialization
The persons, group, or institutions that teach us what we need to know in order to participate in society.
What is peer-group
A group of people when are linked by common interests, equal social position, and (usually) similar age
What is mass media?
Large scale organizations that use print or electronic means (such as radio, tv, fil, and the internet) to communicate with large numbers of people.
What is Gender socialization?
The aspect of socialization that contains specific messages and practices concerning the nature of being female or male in a specific group or society.
What is Racial Socialization?
The aspect of socialization that contains specific messages and practices concerning the nature of one’s racial or ethnic status.
What is social devalution?
A situation in which a person or group is considered to have less social value that other individuals or groups.
What is Ageism?
prejudice and discrimination against people on the basis of age, particularly against older people.
What is Resocialization?
Learning new and different set of attitudes, values and behaviors from those in one’s background and experience.
