What is a norm?
Social rules which define correct and acceptable behaviour
What is a value?
Beliefs about what is right and wrong and which standards are worth maintaining in any social group
What is a custom?
traditions and regular norms of behaviour associated with specific social situations, events and anniversaries
What is culture?
described as beliefs, customs or ways of life
What is high culture?
Haralambos and Holborn (2013) - state that these ‘cultural creations have high status’ –> ballet, opera, classical music
What is folk culture?
Traditional/cultural products and activities that originate with ordinary people and are rooted in pre-industrial societies

What is low culture?
Culture of low ranked groups of society that has little worth or value → sometimes includes mass culture
What is mass/pop culture?
Mass or pop culture refers to the products of the mass media in modern capitalist societies.
What are the agents of socialisation?

Media
Peer groups
Work place
