curious incident Flashcards
(11 cards)
who is curious incident written by?
mark hadden
what were the original performance conditions of curious incident?
first performed in 2012 at the Cottesloe theatre in the round, in a small performance space with raked setting.
what’s my imaginative concept?
- christopher goes through many different challenging situations in the play like wellington’s murder.
- key section where christopher travels to see his mum via public transport.
- base my design on a tube line map.
- use colours and locations to explore emotional journeys christopher goes through.
- christopher shows signs of neurodiversity = tube line is his way of processing and managing complexities through the systematic and factual nature of the map.
what are the themes in play?
journey, family, braving the unknown, mystery, truth and complexities of life.
what influenced me to use a stage ceiling composed of LED boxes?
girl in the machine by stef smith at the young vic.
how did the girl in the machine use the LED boxes?
- created a heartbeat through pulsating LEDs = communicated Polly’s anxiety due to the changing speed of heartbeat.
- lighted individual sections of the stage in scenes where polly and rowan were fighting = growing separation due to isolation and division created.
how could the girl in the machine used the LED boxes more efficiently?
- could have used more colour = relationship red, technology white etc.
what influenced me to use projector screens?
1984 by george orwell at yvonne arnard theatre in guilford, used a gauze for projection.
how did 1984 use projection?
- highlighted location of scenes and created a sense of big brother and use of technology in their dystopian world.
- used minimalistic set so projection stating location was effective.
- used video recordings and glitches = created the dystopian world they were in and glitches communicated how their laws and world were in fact flawed, which contrasted with the character’s overwhelming sense that this wasn’t the case.
- recordings were seamless.
- gauze was used once , projection or fly in projectors would have been more effective.
what is a trend in sound design I have noticed?
- music with a heavy base line/beat and non-diagetic sounds that replicate a heart beat = emotions of characters and highlight key moments of tension and importance in plot (pulse of the story).
what inspired my use of high volumes?
oedipus at the old vic = reflects states and moments of emotional height.
