Increased wages for Hotel workers

A

negatively effects small business in Los Angeles. Businessman say hotel-businesses would rather open-up in neighboring cities. The decision the city council made to raise wages is thought to be a testament to the diminishing power businesses had in the 70s at City Hall. A 12-3 vote made it so Hotels with 150 rooms or more must pay its workers $15.37 starting next summer.

“The city doesn’t care about jobs” is what business leaders say as the city continues to make it more difficult for them to earn millions/billions at the price of workers working 9-5 for slave-wages.

The city is “one of the bluest cities in the United States.”
Unions have the clout now.

Because what you see in America is a country that has steadily worked to address our problems and make our union more perfect .”

Harboring A Sex Predator: It’s a Shame

A

George McKenna, LAUSD school board member responsible for overseeing Miramonte Elementary as scandals of sexual abuse began to surface in 2011, knew about the investigation being carried-out on Mark Berndt and decided to let him teach regardless. His decision resulted in Berndt sexually abusing his third-grade-students numerous times, and the lawsuit charged against the school-district today.

The sick fuck fed the children semen, and then he took pictures of him doing so. Documents show incidents of the guy sexually misconducting himself with students as far back as 1983.

On Oct. 7 the district is going to moronically show up in court in an attempt to get the case being made against them dismissed.

The sick fuck didn’t deny ruining the kid’s innocence and received only 25 years in prison.

Those who should have prevented the abuse and didn’t still hold high positions in LAUSD today, and continue moving up.

Police began a probe on Nov. 18, 2010, when a CVS employee processing the pictures became alarmed by their contents and called police to the Redondo Beach store.

Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting requirements.

Rossall said that Berndt wasn’t removed from the classroom earlier because officials didn’t know the nature of the allegations until January. (despite receiving calls from Freeman and a child abuse investigator, according to the sworn testimony.)

LAUSD brought in a counselor to meet with students who claimed Berndt had masturbated in front of them, in 1983.

In July 1993, a fellow teacher reported that Berndt exposed himself to another teacher and her classroom of students. The principal at that time told the teacher there was nothing she could do because “Berndt had tenure,” according to the lawsuit.

In 1994, a Suspected Child Abuse Report was filed after a student told her mother that Berndt touched her inappropriately.

Gov. Jerry Brown gives consent to SB 967

A

which gives colleges in Calif. rules on how to follow-up on rape allegations; it defines when “yes” means “yes”.

one in five women experience sexual assault on college campuses

neither silence or lack of resistance constitute consent, but gestures such as a nod and moving in does. Consent must be ongoing throughout a sexual activity and can be revoked at any time.

anyone drunk or drugged cannot grant consent

the bill requires college-faculty be trained to not offend victims while following-up on sexual assault allegations and that colleges provide counseling services to victims

critics say the bill is over reaching and that the bill presumes the accused guilty

it’s a statewide measure, and it applies to all post-secondary-school that receive financial aid from the state.

an advocacy office must be established on every campus by June to counter what some call an epidemic of sexual violence among college students, both independent of the state and confidential

College students are addicted

A

to using their cellphones. Women spend an average of 10 hrs. on their cellphones (building relationships), while men spend an average of 8 hrs. on their cellphones (entertaining themselves or handling business) in a single day.

The article calls the cellphone the staple of modern life.

Studies show that college students spend the most time on their cellphones (a little more than an hour and a half each day).

Use of mobile devices or electronics in the classroom is at the discretion of each individual professor which is why they’ll typically outline there choice in a syllabus.

A study found that overuse of cellphones may cause anxiety in people when they are separated from them.

For young people, cellphones are their connection to the outside world.

Cheever likened the activity to a video game, where a player constantly scores points.

Does excessive phone use mean college students are multitaskers, adept at email, texting and conversing at the same time?

Mayor Eric Garcetti wants Safer Streets

A

by 2025. He looks to ending all pedestrian-related deaths, improving safety around public schools and changing the timing of streetlights to account for the amount of time it takes people to cross streets, and an increased use of technology to help motorists find parking spaces.

…the notion of zero traffic fatalities will require some engineering, studying where each fatal collision occurred and how it may have been prevented.

Also in the plans to make things better on the streets of Los Angeles are meetings with parents and administration, speed reducers, an upgrade of the ATSAC system, and investing in public transit.

The vision’s success, outlined in a 61-page write-up, depends on the Transportation department’s ability to cooperate with other departments.

4-Year Degrees From a Community College (SB 850)

A

will be offered no later than 2017-18 in certain fields at colleges who’ll participate. Gov. Jerry Brown pushes for it to be so.

It gives more Californians access to affordable higher education that can enable them to obtain well-paying jobs. A Bachelor’s degree will be offered for those studying in vocational fields.

The measure will cause community colleges to charge $84 dollars more per unit for upper division baccalaureate coursework.

The effort may or may not continue after 2022, depending on its effectiveness.

A measure like this has long been sought after.

LB-CC will not be participating.
