What is hacking?
When an unauthorized person accesses your computer/data without permission. They’d do this to steal data/personal info.
How do you prevent hacking?
Strong passwords, two factor authentication, keep software/devices up to date
What is social engineering?
The art of manipulating people into doing something they shouldn’t, like handing over sensitive info, clicking a malicious link, granting access to restricted systems.
What is phishing?
Email that looks as though it comes from a bank or other trusted company and they trick you into clicking a link or providing private information.
What is shouldering?
Looking over someone’s shoulder to see their username or password.
What is another example of social engineering?
The perpetrator invents a scenario in order to convince the victim to give them data or money.
What is malware?
Malicious software designed to gain access to a computer to cause problems with it’s operations.
What is a virus?
Harms your computer in some way, usually by deleting or altering files and stopping programs from running.
What is a trojan?
Starts by pretending to be a trusted file but gives unauthorised access to your computer when you run it.
What is ransomware?
When someone blocks or encrypts a device or systems and requests money in exchange for them being unlocked.
What is spyware?
Collects info from your computer and sends it to someone.
Give 5 ways you can spot a phishing email?
No name/personal details given, weird sender email address, sense of urgency, spelling/grammar mistakes, a link to click on.
How do you prevent malware?
- An antivirus system - a system that scans for viruses/malware. Software for blocking malicious programs, e.g. malware, from harming your computer.
- Firewall - monitors connections to and from your computer. If it spots something suspicious, it closes the connections or disconnects it.
