16
Q

radicular cyst common clinical signs

A

slowly enlarging swellings
frequently asymptomatic
discovered by radiography of non-vital teeth

17
Q

residual cyst common clinical signs

A

frequently asymptomatic
slowly enlarging swelling

18
Q

odontogenic keratocyst common clinical signs

A

usually asymptomatic
discovered on examination or radiograph
tooth displacement
occasionally paraesthesia of lower lip

19
Q

dentigerous cyst common clinical signs

A

may grow to large size until discovered - like keratocyst
mostly discovered on radiograph due to tooth eruption failure

20
Q

nasopaline cyst common clinical signs

A

swelling of anterior plate of floor of nose

21
Q

solitary bone cyst common clinical signs

A

discovered on radiograph

22
Q

suitable radiographic views for cysts in the maxilla

A

periapcals and oblique occlusal
panoramic radiograph or lateral oblique
true lateral (anterior maxilla)

23
Q

suitable radiographic views for cysts in the mandible

A

periapicals and true occlusals
panoramic radiograph or lateral oblique

24
Q

CBCT indications for imaging of cysts

A

may be useful in planning surgery of large cysts, particularly in the maxilla

25
Cysts - how the margins may appear
typically well defined round or ovoid radiolucency surrounded by well defined margin corticated margins usually seen except in solitary bone cysts
26
signs of an infected cysts
may be symptomatic may appear less well-defined on radiograph
27
radicular cysts - radiographic appearance
well defined, round or ovoid radiolucency associated with root apex corticated margin continuous with lamina dura of affected tooth
28
Radicular cyst - histopathology
cyst lumen lined with layer of simple non-keratined squamous epithelium of variable thickness
29
residual cyst - radiographic appearance
well defined, ovoid or round radioucency in an edentulous area - may see occasional flecks of calcification
30
residual cyst pathology
arises form a radicular cyst that is left behind following tooth extraction histologically similar to radicular cyst
31
keratocyst radiographic appearance
well defined radiolucency with densely corticated margins outline may be scalloped in shape expansion usually limited - propensity to grow along the medullary cavity may have multilocular appearance
32
odontogenic keratocyst histology
lined by continuous layer of stratified squamous epithelium of even thickness
33
dentigerous cyst radiographic appearance
pericoronal radiolucency greater than 3-4mm in width well defined, corticated radiolucency associated with the crown of an unerupted tooth attaches at the ACJ of affected tooth
34
eruption cyst pathology
a dentigerous cyst in soft tissue over an erupting tooth histologically similar to dentigerous cyst
35
nasopalitine duct cyst radiographic features
well defined, round radiolucency in midline of anterior maxilla may appear heart shaped due to superimposition of anterior nasal spine
36
solitary bone cyst radiographic features
well defined but non-corticated radiolucency - expansion rare
