Types of Commands, Cadence, Counting Cadence (22 cards)
What type of command explains what the movement will be?
Preparatory Command
Ex: Flight, HALT
(flight is the preparatory)
What type of command follows the preparatory command?
Command of Execution
Ex: Forward, MARCH
(march is the execution)
These commands are given at a uniformly high pitch and louder volume than that of a normal command of execution
FALL IN, AT EASE, REST
preparatory command & command of execution are combined
Given when one unit of the element must execute a movement different from the other units or must execute the same movement at a different time
Supplementary commands
Ex: CONTINUE THE MARCH, STAND FAST
Have no preparatory command or command of execution, and they are not supplementary
Informational commands
Ex: PREPARE FOR INSPECTION, COLUMN OF FILES, DISMISS THE SQUADRON
Use this command to revoke a preparatory command
AS YOU WERE
Give the command of execution as the left foot strikes the ground. The next time the left foot strikes the ground, the group counts cadence for eight steps as follows; ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR; ONE TWO THREE FOUR. The count of ONE is given on the right foot because the right foot is moved first
Count Cadence, COUNT
Place the heels as near each other as the conformation of the body permits, and ensure the feet are turned out equally, forming a 45-degree angle
- eyes front
- silence and immobility are required
Position of Attention
- Heels are 12 inches apart
- As the left foot moves, bring the arms, fully extended, to the back of the body
- The palms will face outwards. Place the right hand in the palm of the left, right thumb over the left to form an “X”
- eyes straight ahead; remain silent and immobile
Parade, REST
On the command, relax in a standing position, but keep the right foot in place
AT EASE
On the command, the same requirements for at ease apply, but moderate speech is permitted
REST
On the command FACE, raise the right (left) toe and left (right) heel slightly and pivot 90 degrees
Right (Left), FACE
Keeping the upper portion of the body at the position of attention, pivot 180 degrees to right on the ball of the right foot and heel of the left foot, with a twisting motion from the hips
About, FACE
On command MARCH, step off straight ahead with the left foot, taking a 24-inch step
- Measure the swing 6 inches to the front and 3 inches to the rear
- Counts one and three are given as the heel of the left foot strikes the ground
- Counts two and four are given as the heel of the right foot strikes the ground
Forward, MARCH
- Standard march
- 100-120 steps/min
- 24 inches
Quick Time, MARCH
- Jog in formation
- 180 steps/min
- 30 inches
Double Time, MARCH
- March in place
- 100-120 steps/min
- 4-inches (step lift)
Mark Time, MARCH
- shorten your step in 12 inches
- maintain cadence at 100-120 steps/min
Half Step, MARCH
Given only from a halt and for moving short distances
Right (Left) Step, MARCH
On the command MARCH, the Airman or Guardian takes a 12-inch step with the left foot, placing it in front of and in line with the right foot and distributes the weight of the body on the balls of both feet
- pivots on the balls of both feet, turning 180 degrees to the right, and takes a 12-inch step with the left foot in the new direction
To the Rear, MARCH
On the command MARCH, the Airman or Guardian takes one more 24-inch step, pivots 90 degrees to the right (left) on the ball of the left (right) foot, keeping the upper portion of the body at the position of attention
