(d) Reactivity Series Flashcards
(6 cards)
What are 3 common protective coatings?
Al2O3, chromium oxide, silicon dioxide
Reaction of potassium with (cold) water?
Special points: lilac flame, UI purple, alkaline solution
Why do universal indicator turns purple?
The hydroxides formed in all of these reactions dissolve in water to form alkaline solutions. These solutions turn universal indicator purple, showing they are strongly alkaline. Strong alkalis are corrosive .
Reaction of sodium with oxygen?
yellow/orange flame, forms white solid
What property does a metal should have to make a hot water pipe?
Does not rust or resists corrosion
What property should a metal have to make a food can?
unreactive
