Jazz
A routine or combination with smooth dance movements usually to popular music
Isolation
Moving one body part independently of the others
Pas de bourre
Cross, back, side, front … With a fast tempo
Pirouette
A turn, performed in releve with the leg in passé (hook)
Plie
A bending of the knees over the feet
Parallel
No rotation, toes stay straight ahead
Pivot turn
Preformed in two steps … 1/2 turn on the balls of the feet to change directions
Three step turn
Take three equal steps while rotating 360 degrees…. You end up where you started
Dig
To place the ball of the foot on the floor but do not change weight… Usually done In preparation to use that foot
Passé (hook)
To connect the to the leg as high as possible…. The inside of the big toe presses against the inside of the leg and the foot is pointed
Leap(jete)
To take off on one foot and land on the other… Both feet are momentarily off the floor at the same time… Attempting to split int the air
Opposition
The opposite arm and leg are forward during a step, for example during a chasse
Grape vine
Step side, step back, step side
Chasse
To chase, a sliding action or step together step where the feet kiss and point in the middle
Projection
Creating audience appeal through attitude, eye contact, appropriate facial expression and full body commitment to the dance movement
Jazz square
Cross front, step back, step side, step together
Lindy
Side chasse with a ball change. Arms are in a T and cross position
Spotting
Eyes are fixed on one spot as the body rotates to keep ones orientation
Pick up step
Executing the same movement on different counts
Ballet
A theatrical work or entertainment in which a choreographer has expressed his ideas in a group and solo performance to a musical accompaniment with appropriate costumes, scenery and lighting
