Data test Flashcards
(26 cards)
What is the mean?
All the numbers added together divided by how many numbers there are
What is the mode?
Most common number
What is the median?
Middle number
What do you do if there are two middle numbers?
Add them together and divide by two
What does the numbers refer to in the correlation coefficient?
If it’s above 0.5 it is strong, below 0.5 it is weak - if it is at 0.05 it i moderate
If the correlation coefficient is -0.7 is that strong or weak?
Strong
What does the negative and positives refer to in the correlation coefficient?
The direction
What is the correlation coefficient?
Strength of the data
What is the p value?
The significance of the data
What is considered statistically significant for a p value?
Anything below 0.05
How is a p value of 0.05 written?
P<0.05
What is the standard deviation?
How much the data varies around the mean
What is bi-variate data?
Two sets of data
What does a high correlation mean?
The data depends on each other
What is Correlation studies?
Strength and direction of the relationship that may exist between two variables
What does r = 1 mean?
A perfect linear relationship exists (strong positive)
What does r = 0 mean?
(Flat, straight line), means there’s no relationships - no correlation
What does the size of the standard error bars mean?
The larger they are the more the data varies, the smaller they are the less the data varies
What do small numbers in standard error bars represent?
Smaller numbers = more accuracy
What does an overlap of standard error bars suggest?
There is no significant difference
What is a mathematical trend?
Describe the direction, strength and whether it’s linear or non-linear (e.g. it is strong, positive and linear)
What does contrast mean?
State the differences
What does deduce mean?
Draw a conclusion
What does compare mean?
Demonstrate similarities and differences
