Day 1 Flashcards
(19 cards)
Name the three reasons why compliance with KSQR is mandatory
Improved service delivery
Reduced costs
Reduced time
Define KSQR
Key service quality requirements for design and preparation, execution and evaluation
Explain the components of a buffer
An acidic buffer is a weak acid with its conjugate base.
A basic buffer is a weak base with its conjugate acid.
Define molecules
Molecules are multiple elements bonded together
Define organic molecules
Organic molecules are carbon Rich
Define inorganic molecules
Inorganic molecules are often metallic salts, strong acids, and bases
How does Le Chatlier’s principal apply to boron & borate?
As temperature increases at a fixed pH the fraction of borate decreases. that is to say at 10 pH and 75° nearly all boric acid is borate, at 150° only 40% of the boric acid is borate.
Where does a precipitate come from?
When a solvent cannot dissolve any more solute the solution is saturated and a precipitate forms from the solute.
What is scaling?
Scaling is the formation of precipitate solutes with in the borehole.
What charge do anions have and give some examples.
Anions have a negative charge examples are chloride Cl-, oxide O2-, nitrate NO3-, & hydroxide OH-
What charge do cations have and give some examples
Carions have a positive charge aluminum Al3+, calcium Ca2+, potassium K+, and sodium Na+
What is the valence
The valence is the outermost electron ring of an atom.
What is the octet rule?
Electrons prefer to pair in groups of two and eights around and Atom.
What is covalent bonding?
Covalent bonding shares electrons between two or more atoms within a molecule.
What is ionic bonding?
Ionic bonding is a bond between two Atoms involving the theft of an electron.
Are covalent bonds strong or weak?
Covalent bonds are strong and require energy to break.
Are ionic bonds strong or weak?
Ionic bonds can be very strong. They tend to disassociate in water and some polar solvents.
Define temporary clay stabilizers.
Temporary clay stabilizers are salts that interact with clay.
M117 - KCl
Define permanent clay stabilizers.
Permanent place stabilizers are usually polymers the coat the rock forming a barrier.
