What are Ego Defense Mechanisms?
Adaptive behaviors for a short period of time. When relied on instead of addressing the problems is when they become maladaptive.
Where can Baker Acted patients be taken?
Baker Acted patients can only be taken to a receiving facility or standing facility. Anything else is a state hospital and they cannot be taken there.
Example: A police officer cannot find a person on the street and take them to a state hospital.
What happens after 72 hours under the Baker Act?
Baker Act must receive an evaluation past the 72 hours, and if they are recommended a medication, you must ask if they want it. If they don’t want it and are not a danger to themselves, they are not required to take it.
What is Transference?
The patient projects past feelings or attitudes onto the healthcare provider.
Example: Patient refuses care because the provider reminds them of someone they distrust.
What is Countertransference?
The provider projects personal feelings onto the patient.
Example: Provider avoids treating a patient due to past emotional triggers. Dr says ‘you remind me of my ex-girlfriend because you are both blonde, I’m not helping you’.
