criminal case
court proceeding in which a prosecutor employed by the government charges a person with a crime.
witness
a person who has knowledge of facts having to do with a case being tried & who gives testimony
appeal
a request made after a trial, asking another court to decide whether the trial was conducted properly.
civil case
a non-criminal lawsuit, brought to enforce a right or correct a wrong.
defendant
an individual, company, or institution sued or accused in a court of law.
hearsay
evidence that a witness has heard from someone else
plaintiff
In a civil case, the injured party who brings legal action against the alleged wrongdoer.
