Debate
A formal presentation of arguements with evidence within time constraints
Arguement
Trying to convince someone using your opinions. Consists of a claim

Claim
The tagline of an arugement that is like the top sentence in a persuasive essay

Evidence that supports the claim

Prep Time
Bank of time that each debate side can use to prepare for their next speech (a time out)
Cross Fire
A chance to ask you opponent questions about the speech they just gave
Constructive
A pre-written evidence-based speech that outlines two to three reasons why a judge should vote for the debaters’s side (each side reads case and has contentions)
Rebuttal
An unscripted speech where each debater attacks their opponents’ points
Ballot
How the judge votes (the physical thing that they fill out and something that the debater will reference while speaking)
Contention
Topic sentence or reason for a debator’s case (typically 2 or 3 unique and different contentions per case)
Framework
Any description that tells the judge how they should view the round or explains the impacts or what the debate is about
Volume
How loudly or softly you are speaking
Pitch
How high or low the sound of your voice is
Rate
How fast or slow you speak
Timbre
‘Tamber’ What makes people able to recognize you by your voice
Emphasis
(Stress) Amount of stress that you put on words in a sentence
Articulation
Clear speech
Link
How the warrant links to the claim and impact
Turn
To take the claim or impact made by another debater and turn it against them
Line by Line
To respond to everything exactly in the order it was presented
Crystalize
To take all the arguements that have been presented in the first half and summarize them into a few big ideas
