- Andre Bazin was a prominent film critic who argues that any tool or technique to manipulate the audience’s perception should not be allowed as it goes against expressionism
- He argued in favour of realism as a truthful and valuable form of film expression as it respects the integrity of reality and able to capture the world
- He preferred Italian Neorealism as it captures an authentic portrayal of reality. Cinema should reflect the world directly without editing
