A new work was on display in the Vicenza Gallery, a painting lent from a private collection, a sacred conversation by Bartolomeo Montagna. This loan commemorates the five hundredth anniversary of the painter’s death. It is a painting at the same time, striking and very beautiful.
Una nuova opera era in mostra alla Galleria di Vicenza,un prestito da una collezione privata, una sacra conversazione di Bartolomeo Montagna. Questo prestito commemora il cinquecentesimo anniversario della morte del pittore. Si tratta di un dipinto sia straordinario sia bellissimo.
At the Art Gallery in Vicenza I asked if folding chairs were available. The answer was yes. So I went downstairs to get one. Such a chair is very helpful to me. It allows me to sit in front of a painting and look at it carefully and in comfort.
Alla Galleria dell’Arte a Vicenza ho chiesto se fossero disponibili le sedie pieghevoli. La risposta è stata di sì. Quindi sono sceso al piano terra per prenderne una. Una tale sedia e di molto aiuto a me. Mi consente sedersi davanti un dipinto e guardarlo con cura e in comodità.
At the top of the funicular in Verona the view is spectacular. The city is enormous; I had never realised before how big. There are buildings as far as the eye can see.
In cima alla funicolare di Verona la vista è spettacolare. La città è enorme; non avevo mai realizzato prima, quanto fosse grande. Ci sono edifici a perdita d’occhio.
I took the train to Vicenza for the day and visited the art gallery. It’s a beautiful art gallery, but entry costs six euros. No wonder there weren’t many people inside. In fact I think I was the only person. I think only tourists would be prepared to shell out six euros.
Ho preso il treno per Vicenza per la giornata e ho visitato la galleria d’arte. È una bellissima galleria d’arte, ma l’ingresso costa sei euro. Non c’è da stupirsi che non ci fossero molte persone all’interno. In effetti credo di essere stata l’unica persona. Penso che solo i turisti sarebbero preparato a sganciare sei euro.
I like to have lunch at the Righetti restaurant in Verona. It is a unique restaurant. In the evening the Righetti is a normal restaurant, but at lunch time everything is different. All customers must go to the counter to get food, wine and water and then must bring them back to the table, without the help of staff. Once done, you have to go to the checkout to pay without a bill. The customer must be honest and say exactly what he took from the counter. The system depends entirely on the honesty of the customers. I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere.
Mi piace pranzare al ristorante Righetti a Vicenza. È un ristorante unico. La sera il Righetti è un normale ristorante, ma all’ora di pranzo è tutto diverso. Tutti i clienti devono andare al bancone per prendere cibo, vino e acqua e poi devono riportarli al tavolo, senza l’ausilio del personale. Al termine del pasto, devi andare alla cassa per pagare senza un conto. Il cliente deve essere onesto e dire esattamente cosa ha preso dal bancone. Il sistema dipende interamente dall’onestà dei clienti. Non ho mai visto niente di simile da nessuna parte.
I took the train from Verona to Innsbruck, a spectacular journey, especially in winter when the snow is deep. It took three and a half hours each way, but it was never boring. It was interesting the whole way.
Ho preso il treno da Verona a Innsbruck, un viaggio spettacolare, soprattutto d’inverno quando la neve è alta. Ci sono volute tre ore e mezza a tratta, ma non è mai stato noioso. Era di interessante per tutto il percorso.
Osteria Pitanta in Vicenza is a true traditional tavern. It is not a restaurant that pretends a story, although it is possible to dine there. You can always just have a beer. Tables are never set in advance for meals, to warn drinkers that they are not welcome. Above all it is a place for red and white fans. On the walls the history of the football team is told in images and old articles cut out from newspapers. The atmosphere and furniture are rustic; I feel good there. There is a picture of a fan with words that say: ” I love you even should you win”. Being a fan is a commitment to sharing disappointment…..with the addition of a bit of irony.
L’Osteria Pitanta a Vicenza è una vera osteria tradizionale. Non è un ristorante che pretende di avere una storia, anche se è possibile cenare lì. Puoi sempre semplicemente bere una birra. I tavoli non vengono mai apparecchiati in anticipo per i pasti, per avvisare i bevitori che non sono i benvenuti. Soprattutto è un luogo per i tifosi dei biancorossi. Sulle pareti si racconta in imagini e vecchi articoli ritagliati dai giornali, la storia della squadra di calcio. L’atmosfera e i mobili sono rustici; mi trovo bene li. C’è un imagine di un tifoso con parole che dice “Ti amo anche se vinci”.
Essere tifoso è un impegno a condividere la delusione…con l’aggiunta di un po’ di ironia.
