deep back muscles Flashcards
(27 cards)
what is the insertion for the splenius capitis?
fibers run superolaterally to mastoid process of tmporal bone and lateral third of superior nuchal line of occipital bone
what is the origin of the splenius?
the splenius arises frmo the nuchal ligament and spinuous process of C7-T6 vertebrae
what is the point of insertion for the splenius cervicis?
tubercles of transverse process of c1-c3 or c4 vertebrae
what is the nerve supply for splenius capitis and cirvicis?
postrerior rami of spinal nerves
what is the action of the splenius ?
acing alone: laterally flex neck and rotate head to side of active muscles
acting togther: extend head and neck
what is the origin for the iliocostalis, longissimus, and spinalis?
these three arise from a broad tendon from the posterior part of the iliac crest, posterior surface of the sacrum, sacro-iliac ligaments, sacral and inferior lumbar spinuous processes, and supraspinuous ligament
what is the insertion for the iliocostalis?
fibers run superiorly to angles of lower ribs and cervical transverse processes
what are the subdivisions of the iliocostalis?
lumborum, thoracic, and cervicis
what ar the subdivisions of the longissimus?
thoracic, cervicis, capitis
what is the pointo of insertion for the longissimus?
fibers run supriorly to the ribs between tubercles and angles to transverse processs in thoracic and cervical regions and to mastoid process of temporal bone
what are the subdivisions of the spinalis?
thoracic, capitis, cervicis
what is the point of insertion for the spinalis?
fibers run superior to spinuous processes in upper thoracic region and to cranium
what are the actions for the iliocostalis, longissimus and spinalis?
acting bilaterally: extend vertebral column and head; as back is flexed, control movement by gradually lengthening their fibers
acting unilaterally: laterally flex vertebral column
what are the subdivisions of the semispinalis?
thoracic, cervicis and capitis
what is the origin of the semispinalis?
the semisspinalis arises from transverse proceses of c4-t10
what is the point of insertion for the semispinalis?
the point of insertion for the semispinalis are the fibers that run superomedially to occipital and spinuous processes in upper thoracic and cervical regions, spanning four to six segments
what is the nerve supply for the semispinalis?
posterior rami of spinal nerves
what are the main actions of the semispinalis?
the semispinalis extends the head and thoracic and cervical regions of vertebral column and rotates them contralaterally
what are the subdivisions of the semispinalis?
thoracis, cervicis and capitis
what is the origin of the multifidus?
the multifidus arises from the posterior sacrum, posterior superior illiac spine of illium, aponeurosis of erecor spinae, sacro-illiac ligaments, mamilary processes of lumbar vertabrae, transverse processes of thoracic vertebrae, and articular processes of c4-c7
where is the insertion for the maltifidus?
the maltifidus is thickest in the lumbar region, the fibers pass obliquely superomedially to entire length of spinuous process of vertebrae located two to four segments superior to origin
what is the nerve supply for the multifidus?
the posterior rami of the spinal nerves
what is the main action fo the multifidus?
unilateral contraction rotates to contrilatteral side; stabalized vertebrae during local movements of vertebral column
what is the origin of th rotatores?
the rotatores arise from the transverse processes of vertebrae; are best devloped in the thoracic region
