Definition Of Probability Flashcards
(7 cards)
Experiment
A test under controlled conditions that is made to demonstrate the truth, examine the validity of a hypothesis, or determine the efficacy of something previously untried.
Probability
Is a numeric value representing the chance, likelihood, or possibility that a particular event will occur.
Random experiment
Is an experiment that can result in different outcomes, even though it is repeated in the same manner every time.
What is the objective to calculating probabilities?
Is to understand, quantify and model random experiments, so that we can make a decision that are not invalidated by variation.
Probability from a sample space with equally likely outcomes.
Two events are said to be equally likely if one does not occur more often than the other. For example a 6 sided die. All the outcomes have a 1/6 chance.
Permutations
All possible arrangements when the order is important.
Combinations
All the possible arrangements when the order does not matter.
