(23 cards)
Aligned Selection
A sectional view in which the cutting plane is angled to pass through features which do not lie in a straight line
Alphabet of Lines
The lines of varying styles and thicknesses which are used to convey information on an engineering drawing.
American National Standards Institute
ANSI- One of the agencies which sets drafting standards for the machine trades.
Assembly Drawing
An engineering drawing which shows parts assembled into a final product or subassembly.
Auxiliary Section
Auxiliary view shown in section
Auxiliary View
A view which represents the true shape and size of an inclined surface.
Break Line
A Line which indicates where a view has been broken off or shortened.
Broken-out Section
A sectional view in which a small portion of the part is broken away to expose the interior.
Center Line
A line which represents the location of a center point or axis
Chamfer
A beveled edge usually used to eliminate sharp edges left by machining and forming processes.
Convention
A widely accepted method of simplifying a view to improve clarity and to make the part easier to visualize.
Counterbore
A cylindrical recess around the opening of a hole
Counter-drill
A recess around the opening of a hole which combines features of both the counterbore and countersink
Countersink
An angular-sided recess around the opening of a hole
Crest
The ‘peak’ of a screw thread.
Cutting Plane
An imaginary plane which generates a sectional view.
Cutting Plane Line
A line which indicates the location of the cutting plane that generates a sectional view. Appears in a view adjacent to the sectional view.
Decimal Inch
US customary linear unit used on engineering drawings. (Ex. 1/4 = .25)
Detail Drawing
An engineering drawing which contains all the information needed to manufacture a part.
Diameter
The distance acres a round cylindrical object when measured through its center.
Dimenstion
A numerical value which describes the size and location of a part feature.
Engineering Drawing
A drawing which contains the information needed to manufacture or assemble a final product or subassembly.
Elarged View
A portion of a view drawn to a larger scale than the rest of the drawing in order to clarify a part feature or to allow more room for dimensioning.
