(51 cards)
Soluble
A substance which will dissolve
Insoluble
A substance which will not dissolve
Saturated
A solution in which no more substance can be dissolved
Catalyst
A substance that speeds up a chemical reaction but is not used up during the reaction and can be recovered chemically unchanged
Compound
When two or more elements are chemically joined together
Mixture
When two or more substances come together however do not react.
Solute
The substance which is dissolved
Solvent
The liquid that the solute dissolves in
Solution
What is formed when a solute is dissolved in a solvent
Indicator
Used to show the end point of a reaction
Burette
Accurate piece of apparatus used to measure round numbers
Pipette
Accurate piece of apparatus used to measure round numbers
Concordant
Titre results within 0.2cm3 of each other
Ion
A particle which has lost or gained electrons (and has a charge)
Isotope
Atoms with the same atomic number but a different mass number (have different neutrons)
Relative Atomic Mass
The average mass of all the isotopes of an element, taking into account the abundance of each
Covalent Bond
The attraction between the 2 positive nuclei and the shared pair of electrons (between two non-metal atoms)
Covalent Molecule
A small group of non-metal atoms held together by covalent bonds (low mp/bp)
Covalent Network
A giant network of atoms held together by covalent bonds (have very high mp/bp)
Ionic Lattice
A giant structure of positive and negative ions
Tetrahedral Molecule
Shape of molecules with 5 atoms (eg CH4)
Trigonal Pyramidal
Shape of molecules with 4 atoms (eg NH3)
Angular
Shape of molecules with 3 atoms (eg H2O)
Linear
Shape of molecules with 2 atoms (eg H-Br)
